It’s estimated that some 50% of tattoo wearers want their tattoo removed at some time in their life citing:
Saying Goodbye to the Ink
Until the introduction of Tatt2Away, laser treatment was the generally accepted method for removal of tattoo pigment. Problem is, laser light can only treat a limited range of colors, leaving others virtually untouched. Tatt2Away is ‘color blind’ and will remove all colors including the most exotic hues and pigment blends.
Laser removal of tattoos also has some risks and these are associated with the types of ingredients used in manufacturing a pigment color. When exposed to laser light, tattoo pigment molecules are literally exploded into smaller pieces. In this process tremendous heat is generated and both effects can cause changes in the pigment composition allowing the release of certain chemicals. Depending on the source of the pigment and the additives used by the tattoo artist, chemicals can be released that have been judged potentially dangerous to one’s health. Fragments of pigment broken up by a laser are disposed of by the body’s own clean up mechanism via the lymph nodes and liver. There is some concern that these by products could cause health problems later in life.
How Does the Treatment Work?
The treatment is conducted by making a regular pattern of closely spaced dots.
These 5mm circles are interspaced with 3mm skin bridges within the tattoo design.
A proprietary fluid (of all natural ingredients) is dispensed into these circles and acts to sieze the tattoo pigment in the deeper layers. Subsequent healing of these areas, followed by in-filling of the 3mm bridges at a suitable time interval (minimum 6-8weeks) eliminates the tattoo design.
The average size tattoo (15cm x 15cm) typically takes between 3-5 treatments.
The treatment works equally well on cosmetic tattoos, where eyebrows have gone chalky or white, or blue/purple from previous treatments done in an inappropriate colour. Most cosmetic tattoo removals can be completed in 1 to 2 treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Most clients have said that it’s not anywhere near as painful as getting the original tattoo. Indeed, some have found it annoying, or experience an occasional jab of pain. Should you wish, there is the option of having a topical anaesthetic applied prior to the treatment.
Q: What does it feel and look like after the treatment?
A: There is very little after pain on the day of the treatment. It looks a lot worse than it feels! The area will look a lot like you’ve been playing with a spud gun! Or had cigarette burns!
Q: What can I expect during the healing period?
A: Between days 1-4 it will feel a lot like a sunburn, and you’ll notice it only if you bump it.
Around days 5-6 the sensation will be soreness, and becoming scabby. Expect redness and inflammation over the treated area. This is normal, and indicates that the treatment is working.
Around days 7-8 you will notice the area become quite tight and scabby.
By around days 9-11 the area will have cooled down and be dry and tight, and you’ll start to feel itchy, and want to scratch. Don’t! The scabs need to be allowed fall away by themselves, and this can happen anywhere from Day 3
through to Day 12 or so, and varies from person to person.
All the scabs should have fallen off by around Day 14 or 15.
Q: What happens after the scabs have fallen off?
A: The skin under the scabs should be pink and pigment-free. At this stage is it a vital part of the treatment that a silicone patch is applied to the area to promote healing, and to reduce the possibility of scarring.
Using silicone based aftercare products is critical to the final healed result of your removal.
STRATDERM high grade silicone gel is highly recommended.
Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: We will give you an indication of how many treatments are required during your free 30 minute consultation. Generally, the average size tattoo (15cm x 15cm requires between 4-5 treatments. This depends on a variety of factors including skin type, the age of the tattoo, amount of pigment, the location of the tattoo, and history of other attempts to remove the tattoo (ie Laser)
Q: Once the scabs have come off, why do I have to wait 8 weeks before my next treatment.
A: It is vitally important for the skin to heal completely before commencing the next treatment. A minimum of 8 weeks is recommended. Starting the next treatment too soon will increase the risk of scarring.
Q: How is it different that laser?
A: This treatment removes all colours (it’s colour blind). Requires less treatments than laser. Is less painful.
It’s cheaper than laser. And it won’t damage your natural skin pigment.
Q: It really looks sore and inflamed? Should I put anything on it, or see a doctor?
A: No. The inflammatory response is part of the normal healing process it the body protecting itself from infection. The macrophages have all gone to the 'injury'. If there is an infection pus will form as they wrap around it to protect and expel. Follow your home care instructions religiously.
Q: It really does look quite sore and unpleasant in the first 2 weeks. Is it really worth it?
A: This process of removal is no worse than having it put on. In fact, while it looks a bit horrid, there was less discomfort and pain than when it was put on. For those who have made 'that mistake' in the past ...
This is great news. This process is so much better than laser.
Q: How much does it cost, and how can I pay for the treatments?
A: You can make pre-payments, a bit like a lay-by, for treatments. There is a minimum of 8 weeks between treatments, and you can make regular payments fortnightly or monthly, if that helps you with your mission to remove a tattoo.
The average-size tattoo will take between 3-5 treatments to remove. And the average cost per treatment is around $300-$450, depending on the size and density of the tattoo.
As a guide, over the course of the removal, you'll be looking at about $50 - $75 per week, over 16-32 weeks (minimum)
Q: Can all tattoos be removed using Tatt2Away?
A: No. A number of factors are taken into consideration before commencing a Tatt2Away treatment. These include size, age and location of the tattoo. Your skin type, and compliance to after care instructions is also vital.
In some instances it may be best to do a test patch to determine what type of result you could expect.
A test patch costs $100.
